graciella

Graciella, a native of Camaguey, Cuba, was raised in Spain. She moved to the States as a teenager with her family. After traveling around and living in several countries, she finally settled in the Boulder area 16 years ago to raise her children. Her passion for dance and her desire to reconnect with her roots took her to Havana several years ago. It was a beautiful journey of rediscovery and along that journey she met her husband, Toqui. She decided that she wanted to share her love of Cuba and particularly Havana with others and she started organizing dance centered small group and individual travel experiences back to her home country.

toqui (nelson)

Toqui is a dance instructor from Havana. As for the majority of Cubans, music and dance have been and continue to be a huge part of his daily life. The streets of Havana were his original school until he started working at the famous Casona del Son, one of Havana top salsa and Cuban dances schools. There, surrounded by some of Havana’s best dancers and following the teaching methodology of the school’s director, Silvia Canals, he learned his trade. He taught at the school for nearly 10 years before moving to the Boulder area during the pandemic. Toqui’s experience includes participation as a lead instructor at Ritmo Cuba, Havana’s top Salsa festival and teaching salsa courses for United Nations personnel in Port of Prince, Haiti. Since his arrival to the United States, Toqui has been teaching in the Boulder area.  He has also offered a number of workshops and has participated as an instructor in the Denver Salsa, Bachata, Zouk and Kizomba Congress.
